My Journey as an Educator

There are a few things I’ve always known about myself. First, I’m an educator. Long before I stood in front of a classroom, I was a social worker. Even today, I’m still a licensed social worker, because that part of me never disappeared. My work was never just about helping people through difficult moments; it was about helping them see possibilities, build confidence, and believe that their lives could become something more.

In many ways, I was teaching then, too.

Later, I found my way into education, where I discovered another calling. For years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching science, creating curriculum, and helping students make sense of the world through curiosity and wonder.

The Essence of My Work

Whether I was working with families, teaching fifth graders, writing books, or creating journals, the heart of my work has always been the same. I want to help people learn. Not just about science. Not just about writing. But about themselves.

I’ve always been a lifelong learner, endlessly curious about the world around us and the one within us. I’m fascinated by the way knowledge, creativity, healing, faith, nature, and personal growth weave together. I read because I want to understand. I write because I hope something I’ve learned might help someone else.

That’s what Words & Vibes has always been in my heart. A place where every part of me could finally belong together. A place for my books, my journals, my educational resources, my reflections, and my creativity. A place where I didn’t have to separate the teacher from the writer, the social worker from the lifelong learner, or the practical from the spiritual.

But for years, I let one question keep me from building it. What if no one comes? Not because I’m afraid of hard work. I’ve never been afraid of that. I’ve gone back to school, earned degrees, changed careers, written books, started businesses, and taken on challenges that stretched me in every direction. Those dreams depended on discipline, perseverance, and showing up every day.

This dream felt different. This one asked me to create something from my heart and place it into the world without knowing whether anyone would ever find it. That kind of vulnerability is a different kind of fear.

The Turning Point

Then one day, I realized something. The success of Words & Vibes isn’t entirely up to me. But creating it is. Showing up is. Writing the next blog post is. Publishing the next book is. Choosing courage over comfort is. And that’s what today’s quote means to me.

You are entirely up to you. Not because you control every outcome, but because you do control whether fear gets the final say.
